Supporting Basic Education and Empowering Pupils

Team ATRUD visits primary schools in the South West Region of Cameroon, creating awareness and providing school materials to support pupils.

The Association for Training and Rural Development (ATRUD), in its never-ending effort to change lives by empowering less privileged persons, organized a tour of some primary schools in some rural areas in the South West Region of Cameroon. The objective of the tour was two-fold: To talk to pupils about the importance of education with emphasis on self-discipline and hard work; To distribute basic materials to help pupils, especially those preparing for exams like the Common Entrance Exam and the First School Leaving Certificate.

In Tole village, four primary schools were visited:

Saint Mary Nursery and Primary School.

Solid Rock Nursery and Primary School.

Baptist Primary School.

Presbyterian Primary School.

Materials distributed included pens, pencils, rulers, erasers and Math Sets. A total of about 350 pupils benefited from these materials.

Apart from materials, ATRUD volunteers gave talks to the pupils in various classes on a variety of topics including, hard work as the key to a bright future, the importance of self discipline and following school rules and regulations.

The tour was sponsored by ATRUD Partners such as DNT Academy. As the touring of schools continues until the end of the academic year 2023, ATRUD is encouraging many other sponsors and donors to donate whatever they have for the development of education in the rural areas. Many schools in rural areas in Cameroon are poorly equipped with study materials and dilapidated facilities as shown in the pictures below. Most of the schools are understaffed with each teacher handling an average of 80pupils in one classroom.

The tour was carried out by the dynamic team of volunteers at ATRUD, coordinated by Mr. Tabot Leonel, ATRUD's national Coordinator for Cameroon.
